Keeping the Flame Alive is a mini-game inspired by the oft-misattributed quote, “A flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long,” commonly credited to Lao Tzu. Its tension — intensity versus endurance — sits at the heart of the work.
Referencing classic arcade games, this installation blends nostalgic gameplay with physical interaction. Players fan a flame with motion: too weak and it dies; too strong and it flares out of control. The goal is balance, keeping the pot simmering rather than boiling over.
The piece reflects PASSION, the first consideration inSOUL PURPOSE®. Passion drives creation, but unchecked, it consumes itself. By turning this idea into a game, OnlyFan invites players to experience the act of sustaining passion over time.
