Out of the Shadows was a limited-edition black charcoal egg tart infused with sea salt pandan kaya, created in collaboration between &Larry and Tong Heng, a 90-year-old heritage bakery in Singapore.

The black tart was conceived as a tribute to the many unseen hands behind great work — the bakers in the kitchen, the staff who keep daily operations running, and the creatives working behind the scenes. The project formed part of a broader collaboration that included Tong Heng’s 2018 rebrand by &Larry, which refreshed the bakery’s identity while preserving its traditional roots.

The special collaboration egg tarts were made available through Tong Heng’s physical shops as well as its online store.
